Naming a User-Defined Variable

User-defined variables (UDVs) are named in the UDV/UDP Management project. Once named, they can be populated by a Udv Calculation Ruleset rule in any project. This is why naming your UDVs appropriately is important.

When you create a name in the Customer UDV Management group, the Account UDV Management group or the Service UDV Management group, the appropriate group automatically assigns a prefix to each UDV name:
  • ACCT_UDV (prefix for UDV names created in an account UDV Management group so that a name called CardRange is entered as ACCT_UDVCardRange in a project's Udv Calculation Ruleset or Decision Ruleset rule)
  • CUST_UDV (prefix for UDV names created in a customer UDV Management group so that a name called BostonCount is entered as CUST_UDVBostonCount in a project's Udv Calculation Ruleset or Decision Ruleset rule)
  • SRVC_UDV (prefix for UDV names created in a service UDV Management group so that a name called Cash_TXN_Count is entered as SRVC_UDVCash_TXN_Count in a project's Udv Calculation Ruleset or Decision Ruleset rule)

If you have both debit and credit accounts in Falcon, consider implementing a naming strategy so you can distinguish which UDVs are for your credit portfolio and which are for your debit portfolio.

Important:
  • Regardless of type (Real, Integer or String), no two UDVs can have the same name within the UDV type (service, account, or customer).
  • UDVs must be created and approved before any rules that use them can be deployed.

To name a UDV, complete the following steps:

  1. Open the UDV/UDP Management project, either from the project list on the Home page or inside any project.
  2. Select the appropriate ruleset.
    • If you are creating an account-level UDV, select Account UDV Management.
    • If you are creating a customer-level UDV, select Customer UDV Management.
    • If you are creating a service-level UDV, select Service UDV management.
  3. Select the appropriate UDV type (Integer, Real, or String UDV Management).
  4. Click the Check Out icon and then the Edit icon if it is not already in edit mode.
  5. Click the green + icon. This will create a new UDV.
  6. Click the newly-created UDV and enter a name.
  7. Click the Save icon and the Check In icon.
Important: Any UDV Management ruleset that contains the new UDV must be approved prior to rule deployment. Rule deployment is not possible for rules that reference UDVs that have not been approved.
