Validating Rules

Validating checks your rule code to ensure that the code is syntactically correct.

Rules are validated when you check in an active rule to the repository or click the Validate button. This allows you to validate rules after each rule addition or modification, and ensures that rules without valid syntax cannot be deployed to the Scoring Server. If you receive a validation error, you can more easily find the error, making troubleshooting less difficult.

To validate a rule, perform these steps:

  1. Open a rule to edit.
  2. When you finish editing the structured or free-form rule, click the Save icon.
Note: Rules can only be validated after being saved.
  3. Click the Validate icon.
A message indicates whether the rule contains valid syntax or not. Either way, you have to click OK.
Note: If your rule contains invalid syntax, the message attempts to identify the type of syntax error in your code. You can fix the code or deselect the Is Active option to check in the invalid rule into the repository.
